Our experience with the Clarion NX807E after one year in use
The problem with many second or third car owners is that the entertainment systems installed in the factory are often as up-to-date as they were five years ago or older and are therefore no longer up to date for some drivers, either in terms of hardware or software. This is where the time comes for retrofit devices such as the Clarion NX807E.
Clarion NX807E – our requirements
The goal was to upgrade a Mercedes CLK 2006 with an old sound system with a modern multimedia system. The requirements for the system were
- large touch screen; multimedia and navigation and continued use of steering wheel controls
Apple CarPlay integration and ideally a rear view camera
It was also clear that the installation should be carried out by a specialist dealer. In the end we decided for the Clarion NX807E, which was installed successfully and to our satisfaction in May 2018 by the company Pegel-Sucht.
Our experience with the Clarion NX807E from day-to-day operation
Please refer to our review for product details. The Clarion NX807E has been in daily use for a year. The focus is on radio and CarPlay.
Radio: The radio has a user interface on which 6 stations can be stored. In addition, reception options such as Local PTZX etc. can be set. The sound is good, but the radio has significant reception weaknesses in all settings. The automatic frequency change in the background is slow. The station search is imprecise. The radio is ok for use in the city. In rural areas, the weaknesses come fully to bear.
Navigation system: The map material is provided on an SD Memory Card. The navigation system is controlled via a separate menu item. The destination is entered via a screen keyboard. There are also information screens for traffic messages and route information. Altogether the operation is clear and successful. The weak point is the speed when calculating the route. Calculation times of more than 3 minutes for a route to other European countries are not possible at all.
CarPlay: The contents of the iPhone are displayed flawlessly. Voice control via Siri is very convenient. A few times the iPhone was not recognized and had to be replugged.
Telephone: Bluetooth connection with rudimentary functions. For simple telephoning it is enough to
Stability: The Clarion NX807E runs stable. There were only a few problems with CarPlay at the start when the rear view camera was activated.
Miscellaneous: 2 external devices can be connected via USB. However, the iPhone is only charged on one and CarPlay is only available on this one. A 2nd iPhone is only recognized as a USB device.
Clarion NX807E – Conclusion
Users who attach great importance to smooth CarPlay integration, good sound and operability will not go wrong with the purchase of a Clarion NX807E. Users who listen to a lot of radio will not be satisfied. That’s why the Clarion NX807E leaves us with a mixed picture.
